    Boat Rocker Media Inc. is currently seeking a talented and ambitious professional to oversee the business affairs and production financing of the company’s kids and family division, including its digital animation studio, Jam Filled Entertainment.  The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in managing business affairs in a production company (familiarity with animation will be an asset) as well as excellent communication skills and the proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently. Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Draft tax credit calculations for Canadian (CPTC, PSTC) and provincial tax credits (eg. OFTTC, OPSTC, OCASE, etc).
    • Draft and submit tax credit applications to Canadian and provincial tax credit agencies and manage ongoing applications
    • Manage production interim financing, liaising between management, counsel and lenders.
    • Review and opine on animation services bids to ensure such bids conform to the margins, business interests and policies of company
    • Draft ACTRA and WGC agreements with riders as well as other talent and crew agreements
    • Negotiate production services agreements
    • Manage the company’s production-related insurance matters related to its kids & family productions
    • Prepare, file, manage and close CMF, Shaw and other funding applications and advise on applicable eligibility requirements
    • Track the status of new and ongoing funding activities
    • Review and comment on development and production financing agreements
    • Travel as required, including to Ottawa on a monthly basis
    Qualifications:
    • At least 5 years of experience managing business affairs and/or production financing within the entertainment industry.
    • Excellent working knowledge of animation production and strong familiarity with budgets, cost reports, production schedules, etc.
    • Superior knowledge of, and experience with, Canadian funding bodies as well as Canadian federal and provincial tax credit policies (eg. CAVCO, OFTTC & OCASE guidelines)
    • Exemplary relationships and strong familiarity with broadcasters, financiers and tax credit authorities in Canada
    • Must be well organized, detail-oriented, efficient and have the ability to prioritize
    • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and meet conflicting deadlines in short timeframe
    • Ability to work independently, manage workload, prioritize and take initiative
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work well under pressure
    • Superior written communication skills and the ability to explain complex issues simply, clearly and tactfully
    • Excellent people skills and ability to work as part of a team
    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
    • This is a full-time position. Hours of work are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Primary position location:  Toronto, ON with travel to Ottawa on monthly basis

    SPRING INTERNSHIP: APRIL - JULY
    We are looking for a dynamic individual who takes initiative, feels passionately about their work and will support the Scripted Development team on a variety of new and ongoing projects. Our ideal candidate has previous exposure to the industry, and is eager to learn and adapt to the fast-paced, ever changing environment.
    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Managing the department’s filing systems, databases, and calendars
    • Reviewing creative materials and composing coverage
    • Coordinating travel and meetings
    • Development research as requested
    • Supporting ongoing production matters as needed
    • Covering front reception / answering phones on occasion as needed
    REQUIREMENTS
    • Possess strong organizational skills with a meticulous eye for detail
    • Sharp creative instincts with a general understanding of the television landscape
    • Excellent communication skills, positive attitude, and problem-solving approach
    • General understanding of story structure, character development and written prose is ideal
    • A self-starter with a keen interest to learn
    • Ability to communicate professionally in person and via e-mail

As one of Canada’s leading producers of television, film and digital media content, Boat Rocker Media believes that an integral part of keeping this industry successful is the training, mentorship and skill development of new industry professionals. With this in mind, Boat Rocker’s internship program enthusiastically offers placements within a variety of our departments, including Corporate Services (Business and Legal Affairs, Finance), Development (Scripted and Factual), Rights and Distribution, and Digital. Our goal with this program is to contribute to the growth of our industry through the quality training and development of future television professionals.

Our next placement will begin in January 2017 and run through to the end of March 2017.

While we are happy to liaise with schools offering applicable programs and courses, the Boat Rocker Internship program offers full-time placements and is run privately by Boat Rocker Media. It is not affiliated with any one educational institute.
